Quick answer
01Before you install a mod
Fields of Mistria mods are unofficial community projects for the PC Steam version. A new game patch can break a mod even when the game itself launches normally, so treat the version number as part of every installation.
Never download a random executable from a repost. Prefer the original Nexus project or the open-source MOMI installer, and read the project's own compatibility notes before adding anything to a valuable save.
02A clean install routine
Use a separate test save when possible. Keep one unmodded backup so you can isolate a broken mod instead of guessing which file changed the save.
- 1
Close the game and copy your save folder to a dated backup location.
- 2
Download the current MOMI installer or the exact release listed by the mod author.
- 3
Install into the game's mod folder beside the Steam executable; do not overwrite the original game files.
- 4
Launch once with only the new mod enabled, then add other mods one at a time.
- 5
After a game update, disable mods until each project confirms compatibility.
03When a mod stops working
Remove the newest mod first, restore the backup if the save behaves strangely, and check the author's issue tracker for a version-specific fix. A missing menu, unchanged texture, or crash after the title screen is usually a compatibility or load-order clue rather than a reason to keep reinstalling the same archive.
This site does not host mod files or guarantee third-party downloads. Back up saves and follow each project's own license and instructions.
