Quick answer
All farmhouse costs
Each purchase takes effect immediately at the Carpenter; you do not wait through construction days. The fourth upgrade changes material tiers and also depends on the Carpenter's Shop progression, so a large Tesserae balance alone is not enough.

The real total and the final gate
The full path costs 95,000t, 1,500 regular Wood, 1,500 regular Stone, 200 Hard Wood, 100 Refined Stone, 20 Iron Ingots, 20 Silver Ingots, and 30 Gold Ingots. Upgrade 4 additionally requires completion of Upgrade the Carpenter's Shop.
Save final-tier materials before reaching the money target. Otherwise the last purchase appears affordable while the actual bottleneck remains several mining and crafting cycles away.
Do you need a bigger house to marry?
No. Marriage is gated by the relationship, heart events, the Engagement Ring, and mine progress—not a farmhouse tier. Upgrade because you want decorating space, storage flow, or the second floor, not because an old guide implies it is a spouse requirement.
New exterior options have their own 1.0.2 condition: both the Carpenter's Shop and the house must be fully upgraded. That cosmetic unlock is separate from marriage eligibility.
Prepare before the instant expansion
Because the upgrade applies immediately, clear a logical path through the current room and group furniture into storage before buying. After expansion, establish permanent zones for sleep, crafting, collections, and spouse furniture before decorating every edge.
